Wine Cork Plug

As most people will tell you, it’s always a little more fun to catch a fish on something you made then something you bought at a store being massed produced.  To be clear I am by no means an expert lure maker or claim to be.  I found this in an old Field and Stream article and decided to give it a try.  Here is the web address in case you want to read their article: Field and Stream Wine Cork Fishing Lure Article

Materials needed (Image 1):

1 Wine cork

1 Wire spinner shaft

2 Beads

1 Hook

1 Propeller blade

2 Eyes

1 Skirt

Super glue

Paintbrushes

Outdoor paint

You can find most of this at your local Wal-Mart, crafts shop, fishing shop, or online.  I used jannsnetcraft.com to purchase the spinner wire and propeller blade because I could not find either at my local stores.  I went with red paint, red beads, a white Strike King Silicone Skirt, diamond color eyes, a gold propeller blade, and a size 6 hook. 

First cut the wine cork diagonally (Image 2).  Second take a 1/16 drill bit or anything else around that size and poke a hole through the middle of the wine cork and thread the wire spinner through.  Next place a bead, the propeller, a second bead, the skirt, and hook on in that order.  Once done take a pair of pliers and close the wire around the hook by looping and then twisting.  Then you are ready to paint.  Finally after letting your lure dry all you need is some high quality H2O and a fish to take the bait.  Thank you for reading!
